OpenSim is a metaverse / hypergrid / virtual world system based initially on the open source technology developed by Linden Labs for Second Life.
In its base version it is non-commercial in nature, although restrictions can be implemented to facilitate economic systems.
OpenSim is, similar to the Internet, an open network of compatible subnetworks (.gov; .com; .be; …). Each network is made up from groups of simulators.
OpenSim | Internet | Normal human language |
---|---|---|
Grid | Domain | A group of computers that form a group, such as https://pixabay.com/ where you'll find all different types of contents, but organized and controlled by a single entity. Compares to a city where there s one set or rules, one ruling authority, but you can expect to find literally everything. Example: *.yahoo.com |
Simulator | Website | Think of a multi-story house in a city: Many different people live here. For more internet, it's like https://pixabay.com/music/ where its intended that you can still go deeper, but the content is now made and organized by a by a group of people using the ressources the domain provides, Example: forums.yahoo.com |
Parcel | Webpage | A parcel is a subsegment on a Sim, like a single flat within a multi-story house or a single piece of content on a website like https://pixabay.com/users/22836301/. Example: users.yahoo.com/yavannah |
After a year without a proper body I am slowly seeing myself taking shape and form again!
This is me:
You can find me under my old name Yavannah Halostar in OSGrid.
Thanks go to the Shork Group and Ka'ahupahau Sharpfang in particular.
The Lion avatar is at the moment still undergoing assembly and iterative improvements and bugfixing.
Check out Ka's homepage https://shork.for-more.biz to see what other goodies the Shork Group is creating for OpenSim.
I can no longer provide much support online as I now help with the workshop in the real world.
Also, I destroyed my notes and handbooks for Second Life, so I would have to re-test and relearn everything in OpenSim.
